Master of Health Studies; What Is That?

About Athabasca U’s MHS Program

Ever since I was accepted into the MHS program at Athabasca University, the response I often get to sharing this news is “Congratulations! What does that do?” So here’s my attempt at answering that for you.

What kind of program is it?
This is an online course or thesis-based graduate program for health professionals who are interested in pursuing leadership positions in health systems and organizations. Throughout the program, students gain skills in program planning, implementation and evaluation, change management, policy development and more. There are also opportunities to focus on leadership, health promotion, teaching or research.

What can you do with that?
The program offers significant flexibility, encompassing a diverse range of accepted students, various course options, and the opportunity to complete a thesis. As a result, the possibilities after graduation are vast. However, my personal goal is to take on leadership roles that focus on improving systems and policies to create a stronger, more inclusive healthcare system for everyone.
